SumoBass mono effect · the low end in mono, the highs left wide
The only bass mono plugin you'll ever need for a low end that holds up everywhere.
Make your bass mono below the frequency you choose and keep everything above it wide, or wider. The low end stops drifting between the speakers and plays solid on club systems, vinyl, phones and one-speaker boxes, as loud as it was in stereo. Hear and see every change, at zero latency.

Sumo in action
Why Sumo
One solid centre below FREQ
Everything below the frequency you set goes to the centre through a steep 24 dB-per-octave crossover, so a wide bass, 808 or pad stops drifting and phasing between the speakers. On real bass loops the stereo part under 50 Hz drops 32 to 41 dB, and the centre is left untouched from 20 Hz to 18 kHz.
As loud once it is mono
A plain mono cut makes a wide bass quieter. KEEP LEVEL gives the centre the energy the sides carried, so the bass keeps its level in stereo and its mono sum gets up to 5 LU fuller, and a peak guard keeps the fill from pushing the peaks more than 1 dB past the input's.
Hear and see what changed
MONO CHECK plays the whole output in mono, as a club system or a phone would, and works with ENGAGE off too. SOLO REMOVED plays only what is taken out. A low-end correlation meter shows the bass going in, the bass coming out and the whole mix, from -1 to +1.
Freq. Width.
Two big knobs do the work: where the low end turns mono, and how wide everything above it plays.

REESE ANCHOR
A wide Reese that holds in mono.
Bass / Reese Anchor: the low end mono up to 180 Hz and the top 20 % wider, so a detuned bass keeps its spread in stereo and stays solid when it is summed.
What Sumo does
Every control has one job: a low end that stays solid on every system.
FREQ
Choose where the bass turns mono
40 to 300 Hz, 120 Hz by default at the knob's centre. Below it the stereo side is taken out through a steep 24 dB-per-octave crossover, half-way at the corner: at the default the side at 60 Hz is 25 dB down and at 30 Hz 48 dB down, while 240 Hz keeps all but 0.5 dB of its width.
CLUB, VINYL and MASTER
The right corner in one click
Three keys set FREQ to the corners the guides use: CLUB 150 Hz, because club systems play the bass in mono; VINYL 120 Hz, the low end a cutting lathe can follow; MASTER 100 Hz, a mastering-style mono bass for hi-fi and streaming. A key stays lit while FREQ sits on its frequency.
AMOUNT
Fully mono, or just narrower
How much of the low stereo side is taken out, 0 to 100 %. 100 % (the default) is fully mono below FREQ; 50 % halves the low side and keeps some of its width, for when a touch of spread is wanted.
WIDTH
Keep the top wide, or widen it
The stereo width above FREQ, 0 to 150 %. 100 % leaves the highs exactly as they are; 150 % lifts their stereo side 3.5 dB for a bigger top over a solid bottom; 0 % makes the top mono too.
KEEP LEVEL
No level lost to mono
On by default. It gives the centre below FREQ the energy the sides carried, up to +12 dB, so a wide bass stays as loud once it is mono and fills out its mono sum, and it keeps the top's level as WIDTH moves. The fill never pushes the peaks more than 1 dB past the input's. Off, Sumo is the plain side cut.
MONO CHECK
Hear it the way a club plays it
The whole output summed to mono, as a club system, a phone or a one-speaker box plays it. It works with ENGAGE off too, so you can hear the bass thin out before and stay solid after. A listening key: never saved, never in a preset.
SOLO REMOVED
Hear exactly what is taken out
Only the low stereo part Sumo removes, on its own. Turn FREQ and AMOUNT while you listen and stop as soon as nothing you want is in it. A listening key: never saved, never in a preset.
Correlation meter
See the low end settle
Three needles from -1 to +1. LOW IN is the bass coming in below FREQ, LOW OUT the bass going out, which sits at +1 once it is mono, and FULL OUT the whole output, where WIDTH shows. +1 is mono, 0 is wide, -1 cancels in mono.
MIX
Back off the whole move
MIX scales every move back toward your track at once, AMOUNT and WIDTH together, against the same crossover, so a part setting never combs. 100 % by default.
IN and OUT
Gain where you need it
Input and output gain, -24 to +24 dB, from your DAW's controls and automation, with IN and OUT meters in the footer. A linked safety ceiling keeps the output under 0 dBFS and never turns a mono low end back into stereo.
13 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
Club, vinyl, mastering, hi-fi and home theatre corners, a gentle centre, a Reese anchor, a sub-only mono, a wide top over a solid bottom and a clean pad bottom: thirteen starting points built from documented mastering and mixing practice.
A face that moves
Watch the low end come together
Two streams of red light pour in from the upper corners and meet in one heavy column. When the low end that plays is mono the column stands whole; when it is wide it parts into two legs. Its light follows the output, and the wordmark's light breathes with it.

How Sumo compares
The whole bass mono job in one insert, with the checks most leave out.
| Sumo | Typical bass mono plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| The job | Mono below FREQ, the width above it and the level kept, in one insert | A mid/side EQ set up by hand, or a fixed mono switch |
| The corner | 40 to 300 Hz, with CLUB, VINYL and MASTER keys | One fixed frequency, or a guess |
| Level | KEEP LEVEL: a wide bass stays as loud once it is mono | Quieter the wider the bass was |
| Checking | MONO CHECK, SOLO REMOVED and a low-end correlation meter | A separate mono switch and meter, routed by hand |
| The highs | Left as they are, or wider with WIDTH up to 150 % | Left as they are |
| Latency | 0 samples at every setting | Linear-phase designs add latency |
| Try-and-compare | A/B, A>B, undo and redo | Often missing |
| Hardware control | MIDI Learn on every control on the face | Often host automation only |
| Licence | 5 computers per copy, no dongle, works offline | Often fewer activations, or a dongle |
| Updates | Lifetime updates included | Often paid upgrades |

Questions
How do I make my bass mono?
Put Sumo on the bass, the 808, a wide pad or the master. The default, Mono Bass 120, already makes everything below 120 Hz mono and leaves the highs as they are. Press MONO CHECK and switch ENGAGE off and on to hear the bass thin out without Sumo and stay solid with it, then switch MONO CHECK off before you export.
What frequency should I make mono?
Most guides put the corner between about 100 and 150 Hz: CLUB sets 150 Hz, VINYL 120 Hz and MASTER 100 Hz. To make only the sub mono, try Bass / Sub Only (60 Hz); for a wide pad whose low-mids wander, Wide / Pad Bottom Clean goes up to 250 Hz. SOLO REMOVED lets you hear what each setting takes out.
Should bass be mono?
Below about 100 to 150 Hz, usually yes. Many club systems play the bass in mono, a vinyl cut needs a centred low end, and phones and one-speaker boxes sum to mono anyway, where a wide low end can thin out or cancel. Above the corner, keep the width: Sumo leaves it as it is, or widens it with WIDTH.
Is Sumo a mono maker for bass?
Yes, that is its one job: everything below the frequency you choose goes to the centre, everything above keeps its width, and KEEP LEVEL holds the level a plain mono cut would lose. MONO CHECK, SOLO REMOVED and the correlation meter show you what changed.
Will it make my bass quieter?
Not with KEEP LEVEL on, the default: the centre gets back the energy the sides carried, so a wide bass keeps its level in stereo and gets fuller in mono. Switch KEEP LEVEL off for a plain side cut, and a wide bass comes out quieter.
Does it add latency?
No: 0 samples at every setting, so it lines up with every other track and you can use it while tracking.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/sumo-bass-mono-effect-manual.
What if it's not for me?

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
