BustdBlown speaker effect · a torn cone that buzzes and rattles, level-matched
The only blown speaker effect you'll ever need to tear the cone on any sound.
Put an 808, a guitar, a drum loop or a vocal through a speaker that was played too loud: fuzzy and broken up, thin in the bass but farting on the low hits, with a buzz on the notes and a rattle on the loud hits. Three speakers, AUTO MAKEUP that keeps it as loud as your dry sound, zero latency.

Hear the difference
The same dry sound, without and with Bustd.
Blown car speaker on an 808
A dry trap 808 loop · Init (CAR, clearly broken but still musical)
Blown-out 808 and drums
A trap drum and 808 loop · Car / Rage 808 (half mix, hard blow and rattle)
How to make a blown-out 808
The same 808 loop · Car / Blown Out 808 (MIX 70 %, the harmonics brought forward)
Razor-slashed amp riff
A dry electric guitar riff · Amp / Razor Riff (a torn amp cone)
Paper in the cone
A dry clean guitar arpeggio · Amp / Paper In The Cone
Phone played too loud
A dry rap hook · Phone / Played Too Loud (a tiny phone speaker pushed past its limit)
Every clip is level-matched, so the difference you hear is tone, not volume.
Bustd in action
Why Bustd
Real damage, not a filter
A torn cone does three things a filter cannot: it buzzes with the notes, rattles on the loud hits and overloads lopsided on the lows. Bustd does all three, keyed by your music.
Blown-out 808s that hit
An 808 through a broken speaker usually comes out weak. AUTO MAKEUP brings the speaker back to your dry level on any material, and MIX runs it in parallel so the 808 keeps its weight.
Two knobs to the exact damage
BLOW sets how badly the speaker is blown, from driven to torn; RATTLE sets the loose cone's rattle. SIZE and TYPE pick the speaker, from a phone to a car door to a guitar amp.
Blow. Rattle.
Two big knobs do the work: how badly the speaker is blown, and how loose its cone rattles on the hits.

The blown speaker effect
- Real damage. A buzz that follows the notes, a rattle keyed by the music's own hits, and a torn, lopsided overload from BLOW 50 %.
- Three speakers. A tiny phone speaker, a car door speaker and a guitar amp's cone, with SIZE from 600 Hz - 4 kHz to 80 Hz - 8 kHz.
- Level-matched. AUTO MAKEUP brings the blown speaker to your dry level on any material; OUT makes it louder when you want.
- 808s that hit. MIX runs it in parallel; zero latency.
- BLOW (drive 0 to +40 dB, torn from 50 %), RATTLE (level, ring 6 to 46 ms and sensitivity) and SIZE (the speaker's band).
- TYPE (PHONE, CAR, AMP), crossfaded as you switch.
- AUTO MAKEUP, MIX, IN and OUT with meters, and ENGAGE.
- 14 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
MIX
Blown-out 808s, in parallel.
The torn car speaker at half mix: the 808 keeps its sub while the speaker fizzes, buzzes and rattles on top.
What Bustd does
Every control has one job: the exact broken speaker you hear in your head, faster.
BLOW
From driven to torn in one knob
Raises the drive from 0 to +40 dB, linear in decibels, with a buzz that rides on the notes. Past 50 % the cone tears: the overload goes lopsided and the lows start to fart. The knob reads the drive, and TORN once the tear starts.
RATTLE
A rattle that gets worse as it gets louder
Noise bursts from the loose cone, set off by the music's own low hits: their level, how long they ring (6 to 46 ms) and how soft a hit still triggers them. At 30 % only the loudest hits rattle.
SIZE
From a phone to a woofer
One knob moves the speaker's band from 600 Hz - 4 kHz (a phone speaker) to 80 Hz - 8 kHz (a woofer), with the cheap-speaker hump following. The line under it reads the band.
TYPE
Three speakers that blew
PHONE, a tiny boxy speaker with no bass; CAR, a car door speaker played too loud (the default); AMP, a guitar amp's torn cone. They crossfade as you switch.
AUTO MAKEUP
As loud as your dry sound, on anything
A slow loudness match reads your input and the blown speaker and brings the speaker to your dry level, within 18 dB, whatever the material. It trims over seconds; it does not compress.
IN
Push the cone harder
IN drives the speaker harder for more fuzz and more rattle, and AUTO MAKEUP holds the output level, so you hear more damage, not more volume.
MIX
Parallel blown 808s
The blown speaker against the dry, equal power. 100 % by default; bring it down for an 808 that keeps its sub under the torn speaker.
OUT
Louder when you want it
Gain after AUTO MAKEUP, -24 to +24 dB: the way to make the blown speaker louder than the dry. The speaker's peaks stay under -1 dBFS.
14 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
Torn guitar amps, rage 808s, a trunk subwoofer, a door panel rattle, a phone played too loud and the meme blowout, every one level-matched to the dry.
Zero latency
Track and perform through it
Nothing is delayed, so you can play a guitar or rap through it live.
A face that moves
See the cone tear
The torn cone glows with the output and its flap flashes with every rattle. The speaker goes dark when you bypass.

Questions
How do I make a blown-out 808?
Put it on the 808 and load Car / Blown Out 808 or Car / Rage 808: the 808 through a torn car speaker, mixed in parallel so it keeps its sub. Raise BLOW for more tear and RATTLE for more junk on the hits.
Will it get louder as I push it?
No. AUTO MAKEUP matches the blown speaker to your dry level, so BLOW and IN change the damage, not the volume. Turn OUT up when you want it louder.
Does it work on guitars and vocals?
Yes. The Amp presets tear a guitar amp's cone; the Phone presets put a vocal on a tiny broken speaker. Guitars and vocals rattle less than 808s, because the rattle follows the low hits; raise RATTLE for more.
Why does the level move in the first seconds?
AUTO MAKEUP is reading your track. It settles within a few seconds and then holds; play a loop through once before you judge or bounce a short clip.
Can I use it live?
Yes. It adds no latency, so you can play or sing through it in real time.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/bustd-blown-speaker-effect-manual.

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
