PhotocopyLo-fi delay effect · every echo a worse copy of the last
The only lo-fi delay you'll ever need for echoes that wear out like a copy of a copy.
Dusty, wobbly echoes that get duller, hissier and crunchier on every repeat, as if each one were bounced to an old cassette or a cheap sampler. Worn cassette, 12-bit sampler and thin AM flavours, WEAR, CRUSH and WOBBLE on every pass, zero latency and every preset level-matched.

Hear the difference
The same dry sound, without and with Photocopy.
Lo-fi keys, the beat-tape echo
A dry electric piano chord loop · Beat Tape / Keys (cassette, dotted 1/4, a low mix)
Keys through a warped tape
The same electric piano · a Song preset (slow wobble, noise and dirt)
Guitar and voice, a short room echo
A dry acoustic guitar and male vocal · a Song preset (a 120 ms room-like echo)
Clean guitar, AM haze
A dry clean guitar arpeggio · the AM Haze preset (bright, hazy, gently pitch-shifting)
Guitar, each copy worse
The same guitar arpeggio · the Horror Copy preset (bitcrush in the feedback)
Every clip is level-matched, so the difference you hear is tone, not volume.
Why Photocopy
A worse copy every time
The whole lo-fi chain sits inside the echo loop, so the second repeat has been through it twice and the third three times: each one duller, wobblier, hissier and more crushed than the last.
Cassette, sampler or AM
Worn cassette tape, a cheap 12-bit sampler's crunchy echo, or a thin, bright, wobbly AM echo. One click changes the whole character, and FEEDBACK still means the same in all three.
Three knobs to the exact wear
WEAR ages the tape from fresh to falling apart, CRUSH takes away bits and sample rate, WOBBLE adds wow and flutter. Your dry part is never touched.
Time. Feedback.
Two big knobs do the work: how far apart the echoes are, and how many worn-out copies come back.

The lo-fi delay effect
- A copy of a copy. The second echo has been through the chain twice, the third three times.
- Three flavours. Worn CASSETTE, a crunchy 12-bit SAMPLER and a thin, wobbly AM echo.
- Hiss that behaves. On the echoes only, so it never builds up, and muted while the song is stopped.
- Clean and instant. The dry is never touched; zero latency.
- TIME (1/32 triplet to 1/1 at the host tempo, or 20 ms to 1 s with SYNC off) and FEEDBACK (0 to 110 %, the repeats counted).
- TYPE (CASSETTE, SAMPLER, AM), WEAR (12 kHz to 4 kHz, hiss and dropouts), CRUSH (16 to 6 bits) and WOBBLE.
- MIX, IN and OUT with meters, and ENGAGE.
- 17 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
EVERY REPEAT
A copy of a copy.
Each echo goes through the worn tape, the crusher and the wobble again, so every repeat comes back a little more lost.
What Photocopy does
Every control has one job: the worn-out echoes you hear in your head, faster.
Every pass
Each repeat a worse copy
What you hear is the loop's return: the first echo has been through the lo-fi chain once, the second twice. Each repeat loses more top and bottom, wobbles more and gets grittier, the way a copy of a copy does.
TYPE
Three kinds of cheap delay
CASSETTE, worn tape: duller, wobblier and hissier on every pass. SAMPLER, a cheap 12-bit sampler's echo: crunchy, steady and punchy, the bitcrush delay. AM, thin and bright, high-passed like an old radio, with more wobble.
WEAR
From fresh tape to falling apart
Ages the tape on every pass: the top end closes from 12 kHz to 4 kHz, the hiss rises, and past halfway the tape drops out now and then. The line under the knob reads the corner.
CRUSH
Grit you notice by the second repeat
Fewer bits and a lower sample rate on every pass, from 16 bits down to 6 and 44.1 kHz down to 8 kHz. 20 % by default, 11 bits; 0 takes it out. The line under the knob reads the bits.
WOBBLE
Wow and flutter that builds
Slow wow and quick flutter on every pass, so the further back an echo is, the more it wobbles: from a gentle pitch drift to a warped, seasick tape.
TIME
Locked to your song
A note value at the host tempo, from a 1/32 triplet to a whole note, straight, dotted or triplet; or switch SYNC off for 20 ms to 1 s. Dotted quarter by default, for slow lo-fi tempos.
FEEDBACK
Two repeats or a long ring
0 to 110 %. The default 30 % gives three repeats; the line under the knob counts them. Past 100 % the echoes build and wear away, held by a limiter inside the loop.
Hiss on the echoes
The cassette bed, done right
A soft tape hiss on the echoes only, lifted by WEAR, so it never builds up in the loop. It mutes while your song is stopped.
MIX, IN and OUT
Insert or send
The echoes against the dry, equal power, 25 % by default and 100 % on an aux send; input and output gain, -24 to +24 dB, with meters.
17 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
A home-cassette room echo, warped tape, crushed copies, a beat-tape keys echo, pedal-style modes and taps, wow swims, a five-kilohertz tape and a send preset, every one within 1 LU of the dry signal.
Zero latency
Track and perform through it
Nothing is delayed but the echoes, so you can sing or play through it live.
A face that moves
Watch each copy go by
A scan bar sweeps down the front sheet each time an echo comes back, fainter with every repeat, and the sheet glows with the output. It rests when you bypass.

How Photocopy compares
Lo-fi on every repeat, with the controls most leave out.
| Photocopy | Typical lo-fi delay plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the lo-fi is | Inside the loop: every repeat worse than the last | On the output, the same on every repeat |
| Flavours | Worn cassette, 12-bit sampler and AM | Bitcrush only, or tape only |
| Wear and crush | WEAR, CRUSH and WOBBLE, each on every pass | One lo-fi amount |
| Hiss | On the echoes only; mutes when the song stops | Builds up in the loop, or always on |
| Feedback | Means the same in every TYPE; past 100 % held by a limiter | Changes with the colour |
| Level | Presets within 1 LU at any input level | Louder input, different sound |
| Latency | 0 ms | Often some |
| Try-and-compare | A/B, A>B, undo and redo | Often missing |
| Hardware control | MIDI Learn on every control | Often host automation only |
| Licence | 5 computers per copy, no dongle, works offline | Often fewer activations, or a dongle |
| Updates | Lifetime updates included | Often paid upgrades |

Questions
What is a lo-fi delay?
A delay that sounds cheap and worn on purpose: the echoes come back as if bounced to an old cassette or through a cheap digital chip, each repeat duller, wobblier, hissier and more crushed than the last. Photocopy runs its whole lo-fi chain on every repeat to get there.
Is it a bitcrush delay or a cassette delay?
Both. TYPE switches between worn CASSETTE tape, a 12-bit SAMPLER and a thin, wobbly AM echo, and CRUSH adds bit and rate reduction to any of them.
Will the hiss build up?
No. The hiss sits on the echoes, outside the loop, so it never builds up. It follows WEAR and mutes while your song is stopped.
Will it bury my vocal or keys?
No. The default MIX is 25 % with three repeats, and your dry part is never touched. Lower MIX or FEEDBACK for less.
Can I use it live?
Yes. It adds no latency, so you can sing or play through it in real time.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/photocopy-lofi-delay-effect-manual.
What if it's not for me?

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
