A different voice
DISGUISE moves the pitch and MASK moves the voice's size the other way, so the result sounds like another person, not you sped up or slowed down.
Nothing of you blended back
There is no MIX knob: while it is on, your original voice is never mixed back in underneath. With it off, the screen tells you your real voice is passing.
Clear words, or a character
The default keeps every word clear. Add HACKER's metallic buzz or LINE's phone sound when the video calls for a character.

What Hooded Anonymous Voice does
Every control has one job: a voice that is not yours, saying exactly what you said.
DISGUISE
Move the voice
The pitch move, from −12 to +12 semitones, in whole steps, so it never sits just a few cents from your own pitch. −4 is the default. At 0 the screen tells you your pitch is not moved.
MASK
Change the voice's size
Moves the voice's formants, the 'size' of the voice, against DISGUISE. At 0 % they follow the pitch; at 50 % they move half as far the other way; at 100 %, all the way. The readout shows the move.
HACKER
The classic hacker voice
A low ring-modulated buzz and a dip at 3 kHz, from light (25 %) through standard (50 %) to heavy (100 %). Off by default.
LINE
A phone line
Narrows the voice from full band down to a telephone channel: the phone's band, at a phone's low sample rate and bit depth. Off by default.
CLEAN
Room noise out
A gate in front of the disguise, so the hum and hiss of your room between words stay out of it.
LOW LATENCY
For live streams
A shorter analysis window: about 10 ms less delay, slightly rougher. The latency readout shows what your DAW is told.

Nothing of you blended back
Any dry blend would let your real voice through, so there is none. ENGAGE off plays your real voice and the screen says so in words.

What creators ask before they buy.
Will it make me anonymous or untraceable?
No, and nothing can promise that. It changes how your voice sounds, so it is a disguise for content: videos, podcasts, streams, characters. A fixed pitch and formant change can in principle be undone, and your words, your room and the way you speak can still identify you. If your safety depends on not being identified, do not rely on a voice effect.
Will it still sound like me?
Much less than a plain pitch shift. DISGUISE moves the pitch and MASK moves the voice's size the other way, which is what makes it sound like a different person rather than you sped up or slowed down. The more DISGUISE, the further from you it is.
Is any of my real voice mixed in?
Not while it is on. There is deliberately no MIX knob, so the original voice is never blended back in underneath the effect. When you switch ENGAGE off, your real voice plays and the screen says so.
Can people still understand me?
Yes: the default is a clean disguise with every word clear. HACKER and LINE add character and take some clarity with them; use them as much as the video needs.
Can I use it live?
Yes. It adds a fixed delay, which it tells your DAW: about 74 ms at 48 kHz, or 64 ms with LOW LATENCY. That is fine for recording and for a stream with a delay; you will notice it if you monitor yourself through it while you talk.
Does it work in my streaming software?
If your streaming software loads VST3 plug-ins, yes. Some popular streaming apps load only the older VST 2 format on their own, and Hooded Anonymous Voice is VST3, AU and AAX, so it does not load in those without an add-on. You can always record or route your voice through your DAW with it on.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 10 and 11 or macOS 11 and later. The installer puts each format where your DAW looks for it.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, open it on the old computer and choose Licence > Deactivate this computer.
