GauzeShoegaze reverb effect · dark fuzz, reverse swells, glide and a long hall
The only shoegaze reverb you'll ever need to build the wall in one insert.
Turn clean chords, a synth or a vocal into a shoegaze wall in one insert: a dark fuzz, a reverse swell after every chord, a slow tremolo-arm sway and a long hall it all sinks into. Zero latency by default, every preset level-matched.

Hear the difference
The same dry sound, without and with Gauze.
Clean chords into a shoegaze wall
Clean electric guitar chords · Init (fuzz, a quarter-note reverse swell, a 5 s hall)
Backward bloom
Clean ambient guitar · Wall / Backward Bloom (reverse swells, the glide)
Reverb into fuzz
The same clean chords · Wool / Woolly Wall (the fuzz after the reverb)
Dream vocal
A dry, breathy female bedroom-pop lead · Vocal / Dream Vocal
Synth pad into a haze
A dry sustained synth pad · Wash / Haze (light fuzz, a long wash)
Every clip is level-matched, so the difference you hear is tone, not volume.
Gauze in action
Why Gauze
The whole wall in one insert
A dark fuzz, a reverse swell after every chord, a pitch sway and a long hall, chained in the right order and level-matched, instead of four plugins and an afternoon.
Swells locked to your song
SWELL counts in note values at your tempo, 1/16 to a bar. With zero latency the swell rises after each chord, as the classic hardware reverse gate does; PRE moves it in front.
Fuzz first, or fuzz last
WALL fuzzes the chords and grows the swell out of them; WOOL puts the swell first and fuzzes it, thick and woolly. FUZZ at 0 % is a clean reverse reverb for vocals.
Swell. Wash.
Two big knobs do the work: how long each chord's reverse swell rises, and how big the hall it sinks into.

The shoegaze reverb effect
- Reverse swells in time. 1/16 to 1 bar at your tempo, or 150 ms to 1.5 s.
- A dark, level-matched fuzz. From clean to a wall, thicker rather than louder.
- The tremolo-arm sway. GLIDE drifts the reverb's pitch up to 40 cents; the direct sound stays in tune.
- Zero latency by default. Play through it live; PRE moves the swells into the notes when you mix.
- SWELL with SYNC, WASH (a 2 to 8 s hall), FUZZ and GLIDE.
- WALL or WOOL (fuzz before or after the reverb) and PRE.
- MIX, IN and OUT with meters, and ENGAGE.
- 15 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
WALL
Every chord, blooming backwards.
Fuzzed chords swelling up out of their own reverb, swaying slightly out of tune and back, into a six-second hall.
What Gauze does
Every control has one job: the wall of sound you hear in your head, faster.
SWELL
A reverse swell on every chord
Each note's reverb plays backwards, rising into a swell. Set its length in note values at your tempo, 1/16 to 1 bar (1/4 by default), or 150 ms to 1.5 s with SYNC off.
WASH
The hall it all sinks into
A long, dark hall, its send and its length together: no hall at 0 %, a 2-second hall just above, an 8-second hall at 100 %. The knob reads the hall in seconds.
FUZZ
A dark wall of fuzz
Up to +46 dB of drive into a smooth, square fuzz, its top end rolling from 5 kHz down to 2.5 kHz as it rises. The level is matched, so it thickens rather than gets louder. 0 % is clean.
GLIDE
The tremolo-arm sway
A slow, drifting pitch sway on the reverb, up to 40 cents either way, as if the tremolo arm were bent while strumming. The direct sound is never detuned.
WALL or WOOL
Fuzz before or after
WALL: fuzz, then the swell and the hall. WOOL: the swell first, then the fuzz, which also squeezes the tails. Switch any time; it crossfades.
PRE
Swells into the note
Off: zero latency, and each swell rises after its chord, as a hardware reverse gate. On: one SWELL of latency your host lines up, and each swell rises into its chord.
SYNC
Notes or milliseconds
One key under SWELL: note values at the host's tempo, or a free time in milliseconds.
MIX
From a haze to all wall
The reverb against the direct sound, equal power. 60 % by default; 100 % is the wall alone.
IN and OUT
Gain where you need it
Input and output gain, -24 to +24 dB, with meters. The fuzz follows the input's level on its own, so a hot or a quiet track gets the same fuzz.
15 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
Walls, woolly walls, a clean reverse gate, endless halls, a tremolo-arm sway, dream vocals and free-time swells, every one within 1 LU of the dry signal.
A face that moves
See the swell rise
The haze thickens round the stage light as each reverse swell rises, the light blooms with the output and the wordmark glows. In silence it rests.

How Gauze compares
The whole shoegaze chain in one insert, with the controls most leave out.
| Gauze | Typical shoegaze reverb plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| The chain | Fuzz, reverse swell, sway and hall in one insert | Four plugins, routed by hand |
| Reverse swell | Tempo-synced, 1/16 to 1 bar | Rendered by hand, or a fixed time |
| Latency | 0 ms by default; PRE when you want it | Often a full window, always |
| Fuzz order | WALL or WOOL, one click | Re-route the chain |
| Pitch sway | GLIDE on the reverb only | A chorus on everything |
| Level | Fuzz level-matched; every preset within 1 LU | Louder with every stage |
| Try-and-compare | A/B, A>B, undo and redo | Often missing |
| Hardware control | MIDI Learn on every control | Often host automation only |
| Licence | 5 computers per copy, no dongle, works offline | Often fewer activations, or a dongle |
| Updates | Lifetime updates included | Often paid upgrades |

Questions
How do I get the shoegaze guitar sound?
Put it on clean chords and play: Init is already a fuzzed wall with a quarter-note reverse swell and a five-second hall. Wall / Backward Bloom goes further: longer swells, more sway, more hall.
Does it work on vocals?
Yes. Vocal / Dream Vocal is a light fuzz, swells and a hall mixed under the voice; Vocal / Clean Dream is the same with no fuzz. FUZZ at 0 % is a clean reverse reverb.
Does a reverse reverb add latency?
Not by default: the swell rises after each note, as the classic hardware reverse gate does, so you can play live. Switch on PRE when mixing and the swell rises into the note; your host lines it up.
Fuzz before or after the reverb?
Both are in it. WALL fuzzes first and grows the swell out of the fuzz; WOOL puts the swell first and fuzzes it, thick and woolly. Try both on the same chords.
Will it get louder as I add fuzz?
No. The fuzz is level-matched step by step, so FUZZ thickens the sound rather than turning it up, and every preset sits within 1 LU of the dry signal.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/gauze-shoegaze-reverb-effect-manual.

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
Every shoegaze wall you've heard. One insert.
