Bulk Up in action
Why Bulk Up
Weight and snap that weren't there
Bulk Up adds new sound to your drums instead of reshaping what is already there: a short, pitch-dropping sub under the kicks, a gated burst of noise on the snares, and a transient lift on the fronts. The drums you love stay; they just hit harder.
Made for whole kits and loops
Drop it on a drum loop, a drum bus or a whole kit. In AUTO it hears each hit's low and middle bands and gets to know the loop's kicks and snares as it plays. Best on full kits and loops; on a kick or a snare track alone, one switch sets it.
Harder, not louder
Bulk Up holds the overall level to the dry drums, so THUMP and SNAP change the weight and the crack you hear, not the volume. Every preset is level-matched to the dry, and the output never passes -1 dBFS.
Thump. Snap.
Two big knobs do the work: the weight under your kicks and the crack on your snares.

The drum enhancer effect
- Adds, never replaces. A short, pitch-dropping sub and a gated burst of noise go under your own drums.
- Best on full kits and loops. AUTO decides on each hit whether it is a kick or a snare; KICK ONLY and SNARE ONLY are for a single drum.
- Harder, not louder. The overall level is held to the dry drums in every preset.
- In your key. TUNE sets the sub from 40 to 80 Hz and shows the note.
- THUMP, SNAP, PUNCH and TUNE (40 to 80 Hz).
- ACOUSTIC, HIP-HOP and ELECTRONIC; AUTO, KICK ONLY and SNARE ONLY; LAYER SOLO.
- MIX, the IN and OUT meters, the THUMP, SNAP and PUNCH meters and ENGAGE.
- 14 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control on the face; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
LAYERS
A kick track? One switch.
On a kick track, LAYERS on KICK ONLY puts the sub on and keeps the snap off. SNARE ONLY does the opposite for a snare or clap track.
What Bulk Up does
Every control has one job: drums that hit harder, faster.
THUMP
Weight you feel under the kicks
A short, pitch-dropping sub added under the kicks, tuned by TUNE. At the default 35 % it sits about 6 dB under the drums' own low end (below 120 Hz); at 100 % it is 5.5 dB louder and a little longer. Each sub follows its kick's own strength. The line under the knob reads OFF, LIGHT, FULL, HEAVY or HUGE.
SNAP
A crisper crack on the snares
A burst of noise added on the snares, rising in half a millisecond and dying away: 40 ms long at its shortest, 64 ms at the default 30 %, 120 ms at 100 %, louder as it lengthens. Its colour comes from TYPE. The line under the knob reads the burst's length.
PUNCH
Sharper fronts
A transient lift on the drums above 100 Hz, so the low end stays where it is: about 2 dB more on the fronts at the default 25 %. At 0 % the drums pass exactly as they came. The PUNCH meter shows the lift as it happens.
TUNE
The sub, in your key
Where the sub's energy sits, from 40 to 80 Hz, one octave with equal knob travel per semitone. The cap shows the note (G1 at the default 50 Hz), so you can set it to your song's key, the way producers tune a sub under the kick.
TYPE
Three voicings
ACOUSTIC: a short, subtle sub and a bright snap, for live drums. HIP-HOP, the default: the longest sub and a darker snap, for beats and breaks. ELECTRONIC: the tightest sub and a white-noise snap, for programmed kits. A change crossfades.
LAYERS
Whole kit, kick or snare
AUTO, for a kit or a loop: it decides on each hit whether it is a kick or a snare and gives it that layer. KICK ONLY, for a kick track: the sub, never the snap. SNARE ONLY, for a snare or clap track: the snap, never the sub. Presets never change it.
LAYER SOLO
Hear just what is added
Only the sub and the snap, so you hear exactly where the layers land and what they add while you set THUMP, SNAP and TUNE. It is never saved in a preset.
THUMP, SNAP and PUNCH meters
See each layer
Three dotted strips in the footer: the sub's and the snap's peaks as they are added, and how far PUNCH lifts the fronts, up to 6 dB.
MIX
Parallel, already done
THUMP and SNAP add the layers under the drums, so MIX normally stays at 100 %. Turn it down to blend the whole effect back toward the dry drums.
IN and OUT
See the level in and out
Input and output meters on the face; the input and output gains, -24 to +24 dB, are there to automate from your DAW. An automatic level inside means a quiet loop and a loud one get the same treatment.
14 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
Kits, kicks and snares: a live kit lift, boom-bap weight, a loop polish, sub layers under trap and house kicks, an industrial noise snare, bright snare wires and more, each built from documented drum-layering practice and level-matched to the dry.
A face that moves
See the layers land
A pool of blue light pulses in the floor under the kick when the sub is added, and sparks fly over the snare when the snap is. The kit glows with the output and the wordmark breathes.

How Bulk Up compares
Weight, snap and punch in one insert, with the controls most leave out.
| Bulk Up | Typical drum enhancer plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| What it adds | A tuned sub, a noise snap and a transient lift, in one insert | EQ, compression or saturation on the drums you have |
| Kit or loop | AUTO on a whole kit or loop; KICK ONLY and SNARE ONLY for one drum | One drum per instance, set up track by track |
| The sub's note | TUNE 40 to 80 Hz, shown as a note name | A fixed tone, or a frequency to work out |
| Hear what's added | LAYER SOLO plays only the sub and the snap | Often missing |
| Level | Held to the dry drums in every preset | Louder the more you add |
| Latency | 10 ms, the same at every setting, reported to your DAW | Depends on the plugin |
| Try-and-compare | A/B, A>B, undo and redo | Often missing |
| Hardware control | MIDI Learn on every control on the face | Often host automation only |
| Licence | 5 computers per copy, no dongle, works offline | Often fewer activations, or a dongle |
| Updates | Lifetime updates included | Often paid upgrades |

Questions
How do I make my drums hit harder?
Put Bulk Up on a drum loop, your drum bus or a whole kit: the default, Hit Harder, already adds a tuned sub under the kicks, a snap on the snares and sharper fronts. Turn THUMP up for more weight, SNAP for more crack and PUNCH for sharper hits, and set TUNE to your song's key.
What does a drum enhancer do?
It adds sound to your drums that was not there, instead of only reshaping it. Bulk Up adds a short, tuned sub under the kicks and a burst of noise on the snares, lifts the fronts of the hits, and keeps the overall level where it was. It never replaces your drums. Some people call this a drum booster.
How does it know a kick from a snare?
In AUTO it listens to each hit's low and middle bands and compares it with the kicks and snares it has heard in the loop so far, so it gets to know each loop as it plays. It is best on full kits and loops. It decides hit by hit, so unusual drums can get a layer you did not expect: listen with LAYER SOLO. On a kick or a snare track alone, choose KICK ONLY or SNARE ONLY.
Does it work on a full mix?
It is made for drums. It is best on full kits and loops: a drum bus, a drum loop or a whole kit. On a full mix the bass and the other instruments get in the way of its decisions.
Will it make my drums louder?
No. The overall level is held to the dry drums, so THUMP and SNAP change the weight and the crack, not the volume, and every preset is level-matched to the dry. The output never passes -1 dBFS while it is working.
Does it add latency?
Yes: 10 ms, the same at every setting, reported to your DAW so every track stays lined up. Bulk Up listens that far ahead so the sub and the snap land on the hits rather than after them. It is made for mixing rather than for monitoring while you record.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/bulk-up-drum-enhancer-effect-manual.

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
Drums that hit harder. One insert.
A tuned sub under the kicks, a crisp snap on the snares and sharper fronts, at the same loudness. Best on full kits and loops.
