InhaleReverse reverb effect · a swell that rises into every note and stops on it
The only reverse reverb you'll ever need to breathe a swell into every word, on the beat.
The reverse reverb effect in one insert: every note and every word is breathed in by its own reversed reverb, the swell stopping exactly on it. No reversing, bouncing or dragging; SWELL in note values or milliseconds, SPACE, TONE, and your DAW lines it all up.

Hear the difference
The same dry track, without and with Inhale.
Vocal phrases with a reverse swell
A dry male soul lead · Init (a half-note swell into every phrase, MIX 30 %)
Pop chorus, phrase inhale
A dry female pop chorus · Vocal / Phrase Inhale
Snare inhale on 2 and 4
A dance drum loop · Drums / Backbeat Inhale
Guitar chords, shoegaze wall
Dry electric guitar chords · Wash / Shoegaze Wall
Short breath on a male lead
A dry male pop-rock verse · Vocal / Short Breath (a quarter-note swell)
Every clip is level-matched, so the difference you hear is tone, not volume.
Inhale in action
Why Inhale
No reversing, no bouncing
The by-hand method is five steps: reverse, add a reverb, bounce, reverse again, line it up. Inhale does it live, on any track, and you can change your mind at any time.
Every note gets its swell
Wherever a word falls, it gets the whole swell, rising into it and stopping exactly on it. LATENCY COMP has your DAW line it up for you.
On the beat, or free
SWELL counts in note values at your song's tempo, from a 1/8 triplet to 2 bars, or in milliseconds from 100 ms to 4 seconds. The reverb behind it follows.
Swell. Space.
Two big knobs do the work: how far ahead of each note the swell begins, and the hall it rises out of.

The reverse reverb effect
- Every note, the whole swell. Wherever a word falls, its reversed reverb rises into it and stops exactly on it.
- On the beat. SWELL from a 1/8 triplet to 2 bars at your tempo, or 100 ms to 4 seconds.
- Behind the voice. TONE darkens the swell alone; the dry is never touched.
- Vocals, drums, guitars. From a quick breath before a line to a long shoegaze wall.
- SWELL with SYNC (note values or milliseconds), SPACE (medium to long hall) and TONE (600 Hz to 16 kHz).
- LATENCY COMP, MIX, IN and OUT with meters, and a click-free ENGAGE.
- 14 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
SWELL
Rises into the word. Stops right on it.
Set the swell in note values or milliseconds: the reversed reverb fills exactly that time before every note.
What Inhale does
Every control has one job: the reverse swell you hear in your head, faster.
SWELL
How far ahead the swell begins
From a 1/8 triplet to 2 bars at your song's tempo, 1/2 by default (1 second at 120 BPM). The reverb behind it is set to fill that time: 1.2 times the swell, 1.5 to 5 seconds.
SYNC
On the beat or free
Lit, SWELL counts in note values at your DAW's tempo; off, it is a time from 100 ms to 4 seconds. The knob shows the time either way.
SPACE
From a medium hall to a long one
A medium hall with its early reflections apart, up to a large, smooth hall, which rings longer and rises from further back. The line under the knob names it: SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE or LONG HALL.
TONE
Sit the swell behind the voice
A low-pass on the swell alone, from 600 Hz to 16 kHz; 70 % is about 6 kHz. The dry sound is never filtered.
LATENCY COMP
Your DAW lines it up
On, Inhale reports one SWELL of latency and your DAW plays everything that much earlier, so every swell lands before its note. Off, zero latency for singing and playing through it live.
Every note, the whole swell
Wherever a word falls
Inhale plays the hall's own response backwards, so every note gets the whole swell, ending on it, whether it falls on the beat or between.
MIX
From a breath to a wall
The swell against the dry, equal power. The default 30 % sits the swell where producers' own reverse-reverb vocals do; 100 % is the swell alone, like a bounced track.
IN and OUT
Gain where you need it
Input and output gain, -24 to +24 dB, with level meters on both, and a safety limiter on the swell.
14 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
Vocal inhales and rises, long washes and a shoegaze wall, snare swells on the backbeat, dark and open tones, and a free three-second rise, every one level-matched to the dry.
Click-free ENGAGE
Nothing moves in time
Bypass crossfades in 20 ms and keeps the same delay, so switching never shifts your track.
A face that breathes
See the swell rise
Lilac mist is drawn into the microphone as each swell rises and drifts back out after the note; the microphone's head glows with the output.

How Inhale compares
The whole reverse reverb trick in one insert, with none of the bouncing.
| Inhale | Typical reverse reverb plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| Working live | Live on the insert, on every note | Often capture a clip, then drag it out as audio |
| Changing your mind | Turn a knob | Capture and drag again |
| Every note | The whole swell, ending on the note | Often cut short by where the note falls |
| Timing | SWELL in note values or milliseconds | Often a length to set by eye |
| Placement | LATENCY COMP: your DAW lines it up | Often slid by hand on the timeline |
| The reverb | Its length follows SWELL | Set separately |
| Controls | Two big knobs, TONE and SYNC | Often a full reverb with one reverse switch |
| Try-and-compare | A/B, A>B, undo and redo | Often missing |
| Hardware control | MIDI Learn on every control | Often host automation only |
| Licence | 5 computers per copy, no dongle, works offline | Often fewer activations, or a dongle |
| Updates | Lifetime updates included | Often paid upgrades |

Questions
How do I get the reverse reverb vocal?
Put Inhale on the vocal and press play: Init already breathes a half-note swell into every phrase, stopping on the first word. Vocal / Short Breath is quicker, Vocal / Long Rise longer, and Vocal / Swell Only gives you the swell alone for its own track.
How can the swell come before the note?
With LATENCY COMP on, Inhale tells your DAW it is one SWELL late, and your DAW's delay compensation plays everything that much earlier. The swell then lands in the time before each note and stops on it, with no dragging.
Can I sing or play through it live?
Switch LATENCY COMP off: there is no latency then, and each swell follows its note instead of leading into it. Switch it back on to mix.
Does it work on drums and guitars?
Yes. Drums / Backbeat Inhale sucks a quarter-note swell into every snare on 2 and 4, and Wash / Shoegaze Wall raises guitar chords out of a long, dark reversed wash.
Does it work in every DAW?
Any DAW that compensates plug-in latency lines the swell up. AAX hosts compensate at most 16,383 samples on a track (341 ms at 48 kHz): there, use a short SWELL, render the swell offline, or slide a Swell Only copy one SWELL earlier.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/inhale-reverse-reverb-effect-manual.

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
