ThikkBass amp · a DI bass through an amp and cabinet, the low end kept clean
The only bass amp plugin you'll ever need to put grit on top and keep the lows clean.
Everything under the split stays your clean DI, solid and in tune; only the part above it goes through the amp and a bass cabinet. Three amps, from a warm clean tube amp to a hard metal clank, at the same loudness at every setting and zero latency, so you can record through it.

Hear the difference
The same synthesised DI bass, without and with Thikk.
Growl and grit on a picked rock bass line
A synthesised DI bass, picked rock eighths - Init (GROWL, DRIVE 40 %, BLEND 60 %)
A round, warm clean amp on a fingered funk line
A synthesised fingered DI bass with ghost notes - Clean / Round Clean (WARM, DRIVE 20 %)
A hard clank on a palm-muted metal riff
A synthesised palm-muted DI bass riff - Clank / Metal Clank (CLANK, DRIVE 70 %, BLEND 50 %)
Grit over a clean sub on a synth bass
A mono synth bass, two saws over a sine sub - Synth / Synth Grit (GROWL, DRIVE 35 %, DEPTH +2 dB)
A thick, hairy layer on a driving rock line
A synthesised picked DI bass, driving eighths - heavy dirt over a clean low end (CLANK, DRIVE 90 %, BLEND 40 %)
Dark grit on a bass line with drums
A synthesised DI bass under synthesised drums - Growl / Dark Grit (GROWL, DRIVE 60 %, BLEND 70 %, TONE 30 %)
Every line is a synthesised DI bass or a synth bass, before and after at the same loudness. In the last clip the same synthesised drums play on both sides; only the bass changes.
Thikk in action
Thikk in under a minute: DRIVE, BLEND, TONE, DEPTH and the three amps on a synthesised bass line.
Why Thikk
Clean lows, always
Everything under the split stays the clean DI, so the fundamental never smears however hard you drive the amp. DRIVE and BLEND are tested never to move the low end: -0.13 dB at DRIVE 100 %.
Three amps in one
A warm clean tube amp on the whole bass, a gritty growl above 150 Hz and a hard, bright clank above 700 Hz, each through a bass cabinet and click-free to switch, even while playing.
Honest from the first note
The output is held at the input's loudness at every setting, so you hear the tone change, not a volume jump. Zero latency at the default lets you record through it; HQ smooths the mixdown.
Drive. Blend.
Two big knobs do the work: how hard the bass hits the amp, and how much amp sits on top of the clean DI.

- Record through it. Zero latency at the default; HQ runs the amp at twice the rate for the mixdown.

TYPE · TONE · DEPTH
Clean lows. Grit on top.
Pick the amp and its split: WARM takes the whole bass, GROWL drives everything above 150 Hz, CLANK everything above 700 Hz. Under the split, your clean DI.
What Thikk does
Every control has one job: the bass tone you hear in your head, faster.
The split
Clean lows under the grit
Everything under the split stays the clean DI, solid and in tune; only the part above it goes through the amp and a bass cabinet. What usually takes a second track, a crossover and a cabinet is one insert, and the low end never turns to mush, however hard you drive it.
TYPE: GROWL
The split-bass sound most mixes want
The default. Clean under 150 Hz, a gritty growl above it through the bass cabinet: a solid fundamental with grit you can hear on small speakers, for rock, pop and most modern mixes.
TYPE: CLANK
A picked bass that cuts
The split moves up to 700 Hz, so the whole body of the bass stays clean, and above it a hard, bright, multi-stage clank cuts through heavy guitars. The hardest of the three amps.
TYPE: WARM
A round, clean tube amp
No split: a clean tube amp takes the whole bass, rounded by the cabinet, and only breaks up in the top third of DRIVE. The one for funk, soul and ballads. Switching amps is click-free, even while playing.
DRIVE
From clean to dirty, at the same loudness
How hard the bass hits the amp, 0 to 100 %, with the line under the knob saying what you will hear. Thikk sets its own level into the amp, so DRIVE means the same on a quiet DI and a hot one, and turning it up changes the tone, not the volume.
BLEND
More amp, same low end
How much amp sits on top of the clean DI above the split: 0 % is the DI, flat within 0.07 dB from 40 Hz to 5 kHz, 100 % is all amp. The low end never changes. The knob to ride when the bass needs to cut through more or sit back.
TONE
Dark to bright
The amp's own tone control and a low-pass from 1.5 to 12 kHz (4.2 kHz at 50 %) move together: down for a warm, dark amp that sits under the guitars, up for more string and pick. The clean DI is untouched.
DEPTH
More or less weight
A shelf at 80 Hz on the whole bass, -6 to +6 dB: raise it for a heavier bottom or under a synth bass, lower it when the bass crowds the kick drum.
IN, MIX and OUT
The level, held
The output is held at the input's loudness at every setting, so louder never fools you into better. OUT makes it louder or quieter, with a safety stage keeping peaks under -1 dBFS; MIX blends the whole amp with your untouched track.
HQ
Record through it, then polish
Zero latency at the default, so you can track through it. For the mixdown, HQ runs the amp at twice the rate for a smoother top end when it is driven hard, adding 4 samples at 48 kHz, which your DAW compensates.
15 sourced presets
Start from settings that work
A round clean funk tone, the whole amp with no DI, a darker clean amp with extra weight, more grit, a driven rock tone, dark grit for slow songs, the metal clank, heavy layered dirt, a tight pick layer and three for synth bass, every one within 0.5 LU of the dry.
A cabinet that moves
See the low end
The speaker's cone lights and pushes out on every bass note, the blue haze round the cabinet glows with the output and the logo breathes with the level. With ENGAGE off the cabinet rests.

How Thikk compares
A clean low end built in, the level held at every setting, and the controls most leave out.
| Thikk | Typical bass amp plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| Low end | Clean under the split, however hard you drive | Often the whole bass through the amp, lows and all |
| The split | Built in, per amp: none, 150 Hz or 700 Hz | Often a blend but no crossover |
| Amps | Three: warm clean, a split growl, a hard clank | Often one voicing |
| Level | Held at the input's loudness at every setting | Often louder with every turn of the drive |
| Latency | Zero at the default; HQ for the mixdown | Often latency, or no high-quality mode |
| Systems | VST3, AU and AAX on Windows and macOS | Often Windows-only VST builds |
| Try-and-compare | A/B, A>B, undo and redo | Often missing |
| Hardware control | MIDI Learn on every control | Often host automation only |
| Licence | 5 computers per copy, no dongle, works offline | Often fewer activations, or a dongle |
| Updates | Lifetime updates included | Often paid upgrades |

Questions
Will it make my low end muddy?
No. On GROWL and CLANK everything under the split (150 Hz or 700 Hz) is the clean DI, and DRIVE and BLEND never touch it. WARM is a full-band amp, for a classic clean amp tone.
Does it work on synth basses?
Yes. Mono synth basses work as a DI bass does; the Synth presets keep the sub clean and add grit above it. A stereo synth bass comes out mono, because the amp is mono.
Do I need a miked amp track, or a DI?
A DI, or a synth bass, is what it is built for: plug the bass straight in, or use the DI track you already have.
Can I record through it?
Yes. With HQ off (the default) it adds no latency.
Why doesn't it get louder when I turn DRIVE up?
The level is held at the input's loudness at every setting, so you can judge the tone. Use OUT to change the level.
What does HQ do?
It runs the amp at twice the sample rate for a smoother top end when the amp is driven hard. It adds 4 samples of latency at 48 kHz, so leave it off while recording and turn it on for the mixdown.
How much CPU does it use?
About 3 to 5.5 % of one core for the sound (an upper bound, measured on a busy computer), and about 1.5 % more with the window open.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://voxsamples.com/thikk-bass-amp-manual.

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
