Why VS-M66
Glue you can't hear working
A variable-mu stage: the ratio rises gently with the level, so the knee is wide, the transients survive and the mix simply sounds finished.
Six time constants
Fast for drums, slow and program-dependent (5 and 6) for a master. Pick one and set THRESHOLD until it breathes with the song.
Parallel, and steady in the low end
MIX blends the limited signal with the dry, and SC FILTER stops the kick and bass pumping the whole mix.
Push it. It stays soft.
INPUT GAIN and THRESHOLD on their printed scales, and TIME CONSTANT from 1 to 6.

The variable-mu limiter
- Glue you can't hear working. A variable-mu stage: the harder you push it, the more it compresses, always softly.
- Six time constants. Fast for drums, slow and program-dependent (5 and 6) for a master.
- Parallel without a send. MIX blends the limited signal with the dry.
- Keeps the low end steady. SC FILTER stops the kick and bass pumping the whole mix.
- INPUT GAIN and THRESHOLD on their printed scales; TIME CONSTANT 1 to 6; POWER with its pilot lamp; a VU meter on gain reduction.
- ADVANCED: MIX, OUTPUT (±20 dB), SC FILTER (off, or up to 1 kHz) and DC THRESH, the bias balance of the gain stage.
- A display unit you can hide: gain reduction readings, six seconds of gain reduction history, the live transfer curve and a needle meter.
- One analog unit, built in: the small part tolerances of a single unit, each side its own, in every setting.
- Presets you save and load, with arrows to step through them; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %.
- 64 samples of latency, reported to your DAW, and a POWER-off bypass that stays in time.
A knee as wide as the mix
The transfer curve, measured live at your settings, bends slowly over a wide knee, with a dot that rides it.
What VS-M66 does
Three controls on the panel, four more in the ADVANCED strip: every control and what it does.
INPUT GAIN
Drive the tubes
How hard the signal drives the variable-mu stage, on its printed scale: the harder you push, the more it compresses, always softly.
THRESHOLD
Where the limiting starts
Turn it up for more limiting, 0 to 10 as on the dial.
TIME CONSTANT
Fast to program-dependent
Six attack and release pairs: fast (1) for drums, program-dependent (5 and 6) for a bus or a master.
MIX
Parallel without a send
Blends the limited signal with the dry input, from the ADVANCED strip.
OUTPUT
Sets the level after the glue
The level after the limiter, ±20 dB.
SC FILTER
Keeps the low end steady
Off, or up to 1 kHz: stops the kick and bass driving the limiter and pumping the whole mix.
DC THRESH
The bias balance
The bias balance of the gain stage, 0 to 100 %.
The display unit
Every dB in view
Gain reduction, peak, input and output readings with the time constant, six seconds of gain reduction history, the live transfer curve and a needle meter. Hide it for a compact window.

How VS-M66 compares
Variable-mu glue with the controls and the view most leave out.
| VS-M66 | Typical variable-mu limiter plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| Parallel limiting | MIX built in | Often a separate parallel bus |
| Sidechain filter | Off, or up to 1 kHz | Often none |
| Bias balance | DC THRESH, in the ADVANCED strip | Rarely offered |
| Bypass | POWER off stays in time with the reported latency | Not always delay-matched |
| Gain reduction view | Six seconds of history, a live transfer curve and readouts | Usually a VU needle only |
| Left and right | Each side its own small part tolerances | Often two identical channels |
| Window size | 75 to 200 %, and the display hides | Often one fixed size |
| A/B and undo | A/B, undo and redo built in | Often left to the host |
| MIDI Learn | On every control | Often host automation only |
"Typical" describes what we commonly see in this category; it does not describe any particular product. VS-M66 facts are from the plugin and its manual, October 2026.

Questions
What does VS-M66 do?
It glues a bus or a master together with a variable-mu tube limiter. The ratio rises gently with the level, so the knee is wide, the transients survive and the mix sounds finished.
What should I use it on?
Mix buses, drum buses and masters. TIME CONSTANT 1 is fast, for drums; 5 and 6 are program-dependent, for a master. MIX blends in the dry signal for parallel limiting.
How is it different from a plain compressor?
There is no ratio to set: the harder you push it, the more it compresses, always softly. Six fixed time constants replace attack and release, and SC FILTER keeps the low end from pumping it.
Which formats and systems does it run on?
VST3 and AAX on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit; VST3, AU and AAX on macOS 11 or later, in any 64-bit DAW that loads those formats. Stereo or mono.
Does it add latency?
It reports 64 samples of latency to your DAW, which keeps everything in time. POWER off passes the input through delayed by the same amount, so bypassing never jumps.
What does "one analog unit, built in" mean?
VS-M66 carries the small part tolerances of a single unit, each side its own, in every setting. It is one fixed unit: there is no selector and nothing to switch.

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
